Overview
Connecting with each other online is becoming commodified, and at times toxic, with the rise of ad-dominated social networks, transactional dating apps and impersonal on-demand services.
Has it become impossible to create an online community that’s a positive and kind place to be? And, is it impossible for an online space to encourage more resilient, self-reliant communities offline?
These are the challenges that the Impossible team set out to tackle. Our team includes model, actress and entrepreneur Lily Cole and agile software consultancy Pivotal Labs. After twelve short weeks, the outcome of our collaboration is an app called Impossible People that simplifies sharing and giving amongst communities for 100,000 people globally.
Impossible People allows users to share with friends, friends of friends and neighbours. Through sharing with others, the app encourages a sense of togetherness that is often lacking in modern life. Unlike other online marketplaces, there is no expectation of material return for an ‘Ask’ or an ‘Offer.’
